Debris hit her face and body and the stirred-up sand obstructed her view. She moved into the water, just as another bolt of lightning tore across the sky and shot into the waves. She wrapped the end of her tail around the wooden shaft and broke it off, but the tip remained firmly in place.Ĭorinne slipped out of Pierre’s grasp and skidded on the wet sand as she ran back toward the jumbie. The jumbie pulled at the spear, but its hook was designed to keep fish lodged in place.
